MANICOUAGAN
A vast, wide-open land of undisturbed beauty, the Manicouagan region is located in the heart of Québec. Crisscrossed by streams and rivers, abutted by the Saguenay-St. Lawrence Marine Park and peppered with scenic bays and villages, this is the ideal destination for anyone interested in exploring the heart and soul of Québec’s rich maritime heritage.
From Tadoussac, the gateway to the Côte-Nord region and a favourite port for whale-watching expeditions, the Route verte follows Route 172, on the left bank of the Saguenay River, winding through Sacré-Coeur and ambling alongside the beautiful Sainte-Marguerite River. If you’re up for a challenge, look no further! This stretch has one of the Route verte’s steepest slopes. But it’s worth the extra effort to be able to frolic alongside the planet’s largest mammals, delve into aboriginal culture and relish the rich tastes and textures of the bounty of the sea…just before you hit the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean area and (why not?) continue cycling toward the Véloroute des Bleuets.
