Route verte builders and partners Planning, constructing and developing the Route verte involves a great deal of cooperation and coordination, at the local, regional and provincial levels. Government partners Within the Government of Québec, the Ministry of Transportation coordinates the various actions involving other ministries and agencies. The Ministry has delegated responsibility for coordination, planning, research and communications to Vélo Québec, which serves as project manager. The Ministry of Transportation also administers the Route verte construction assistance program. Established in 1999, this program provides funding for up to 25% of the eligible costs of the project. Lastly, the Ministry of Transportation coordinates the work of the Route verte interdepartmental committee, which includes representatives from several ministries — Municipal Affairs and the Metropolis; Transportation; the Environment; Agriculture, Fisheries and Food; Social Solidarity; and Tourism — and from the Regional Development and Youth Secretariats as well as Vélo Québec. To outline the results of this joint action in terms of planning and construction, Vélo Québec monitors the project on an ongoing basis and prepares a comprehensive Route verte progress report every autumn.
